Aluminum Cannon
I found this aluminum cannon I made in a machine shop class at RPI while I was taking pictures of my wood projects. Machine shop classes often make cannons because they involve the use of many machines & techniques. The pieces are rough cut on a band saw. The barrel and wheels are turned on a lathe. The wheels and pin are knurled on the lathe. The base is shaped on an end mill, drilled on a drill press, and tapped to accept the machine bolts that hold on the wheels. The cannon is attached by press-fitting the knurled end of the pin into the base.
